Another old sparkling pearly friend, by the way... ]]> Thu, 29 Nov 2018 23:08:22 +0100 Berlin concert reviews that‘s what the paper‘s thought of the concert: Matthias Nöther wrote in the Berlin Morgepost of February 5th: "[...] pearly virtuoso music, and for this, the Konzerthaus had engaged the perfect soloist: Paganini's familiar A-minor theme [...] was played artfully by Anika Vavic at the piano, not one note dropped under the Steinway keyboard amidst the whirling action."

Frederik Hanssen, Tagesspiegel: "The delicacy with which the slow theme in the central section of the work unfolds under Anika Vavic's fingers is enchanting. In the brilliant passages, however, the pianist so selflessly subordinates herself to the overall sound that her playing threatens to founder amidst the symphonic tempest roiling around her."

"Ich hab noch einen Koffer in Berlin" This is the title of an old Berlin song …. „ I still have a suitcase in Berlin“ … well, it is more that I took a lot with me ... The Berliner Konzerthaus Orchester invited me to join them in celebrating Bernstein's 100th birthday and to perform Rachmaninoff's Paganini Variations in a concert otherwise full of Lenny's works. (A great inspiration as I am working on his 2nd Symphony). It was a first and very happy encounter with the Orchestra as well as with the wonderful Maestro Yutaka Sado. I am hugely looking forward to making music with them again soon!

A day before the concert the TV station Berlin AV came round for a chat:

Slava One of the last suppers together at my parent´s home. Do I believe that he is gone? No. Even so many years after his death I still in my mind ask him for an advice and sometimes it seems that I get one.

I am so grateful to have been so lucky and had a chance to know Slava, to had a chance to explore the Russian repertoire with him, learn about music, about being a musician and about life. I hope he had some glasses of good Vodka with Dmitrij, Sergej and even Johann Sebastian yesterday night....

The tune of the spring Took Julian Barnes’ wonderful Shostakovich-novel The Noise of the Time to accompany me on my trip to Portugal. I have to reminisce about my last concert with the Mariinsky Orchestra and Valery Gergiev and "our" Shostakovich Piano Concerto No.2 in my hometown Belgrade - and again that special magic-like something on the stage while performing in this company. Here are some reviews of the Belgrade concert.

Now looking forward to diving into yet another ocean full of colors, light and high waves to surf on - Scriabin´s Piano Concerto together with the Gulbenkian Orchestra and Hannu Lintu in Porto and Coimbra!

Girlpower!! How wonderful to perform the Scriabin piano concerto in the town where you live in! Looking around in the wonderful ORF Radio-Symphonieorchester one sees a lot familiar faces and the new face this time is the conductor! It is the first collaboration with Lithuanian conductor Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla. I can only say that I am looking forward to performing together tonight immensely - wonderful to work with a like-minded woman - that definitely adds an extra and delightful angle to a new artistic relationship! ]]> Fri, 15 Jan 2016 14:32:57 +0100 Watch my new “manager” announcing the upcoming season… After having enjoyed a break from the concert stage I am happy to soon be back on the podium. Interludes by Cornel Brad I hope you are all well and enjoying the summer (or winter if you happen to be on the “other” side of the world). When I performed with the LPO at the George Enescu Festival in Bucharest last year (you can read more about it here) the magnificent photographer Cornel Brad took some photos. Here is one he took just before I went on stage to play Prokofiev's Piano Concerto No. 3 in C Major op. 26.

Cornel is close to finishing his project "Interludes", which he describes as a "photography book with around seventy portraits of internationally venerated conductors, soloists and dancers together and many other pictures of members of the philharmonic orchestras and a modern dance company. [... A] photographically composed score created between famous artists, between unforgettable shows, between emotions, with extraordinary music around." If you wish to support this great artist, here is some more information about it including a lovely video - have a look!

A concert in Ankara Greetings from Ankara! I am about to return to Vienna but wanted to let you know about my concert in Ankara's Bilkent Concert Hall last Saturday (31st May 2014). This was the second time I played with the magnificent Bilkent Symphony Orchestra. Our programme this time around featured Debussy and Scriabin - conducted masterfully by Antonio Pirolli. I played Scriabin's Piano concerto in F sharp minor, Op. 20 and had an unforgettable evening! And if you speak Turkish you will be able to read this (lovely) review in Sanattan Yansimalar:
