An Outstanding Pianist, a Fine Musician

After Alexander Toradze had to cancel his appearance in Mikkeli, Valery Gergiev and his partner had very little time to find a substitute. They found one very quickly.

The Serbian-born pianist Anika Vavic had played the 4th Piano Concerto by Shchedrin at the "White Nights" Festival in St. Petersburg so well that another engagement here in Mikkeli followed.

Anika Vavic is really an outstanding pianist and a fine musician. She played Shchedrin's Concerto with great aplomb and had full command of its challenging whole.

Shchedrin's music is not necessarily easy to like, but in Vavic's hands, it acquired new colors and depth. I would like to hear Vavic again in the future. [...]
