Kreisleriana - Anika Vavic

Broad range of repertoire

Anika Vavic is one of the most interesting personalities among the younger Austrian pianists. Gramola has just released an album which displays the artist's broad range of repertoire. Around Robert Schumann's Kreisleriana, Anika Vavic has invented a program ranging from Beethoven's Sonata Op. 10 No. 3 to excerpts from a musical theater fragment by Prokofiev in the composer's own piano version.

Vavic can already look back upon a rich trove of experience with Sergey Prokofiev's music. She has a special talent for the melodious and filigree aspects of his specific "tone". She erects Beethoven's architecture with complete clarity and rigor, but also with a sense for the poetic. This poetic tone is especially beneficial in Schumann's nocturnally intimate fantasy pieces inspired by E. T. A. Hoffmann's tales. This CD offers a remarkably atmospheric, expressive interpretation of the Kreisleriana.
