A Good Mountain Guide
The fact that Paavo Järvi showed the way so very clearly,
and never let the ensemble stray onto dubious ground, allowed all
to savor every moment in its peculiarity in Prokofiev’s Third Piano
Concerto – without ever making the dense and quickly changing variety
of sound seem scattered. This complemented Anika Vavic well, an
unselfish soloist who was working entirely towards the common goal:
she was able to bask elegantly in 19th century nostalgia one moment,
and in the next was revving the motors of rhythm with great muscularity
– and yet everything retained its delicate structure…
